On Tuesday February 11, Redeve Oy subsidiary Kansallisholding Oy and the City of Kristinestad signed an advance reservation agreement for a land area of approximately 235 hectares. The area will be zoned for large-scale data centre operations.
Following the advance reservation agreement, the area will be zoned for data centre use jointly with the city. The area enables the construction of a data centre of the largest hyperscale category.
– “We are currently developing new data centre operations in the area jointly with the city and our customers. The region can offer us solid partnerships and the necessary amount of energy for large-scale data centre operations. At minimum, a hyperscale data centre requires hundreds of megawatts of electrical power to operate. The operations, including construction and maintenance, and the use of waste heat will introduce new collaboration opportunities in the region. This will be taken into account in the development work,” says Timo Heiskanen, CEO of Redeve Oy and Kansallisholding Oy.
– “It’s great to participate in laying the foundation for the green transition of industry. Kristinestad has attained an edge by identifying the future needs of industry. Striking the advance reservation agreement provides a positive boost for business in the region,” says Lauri Koskinen, Zoning Manager at the City of Kristinestad.
The data centre operations in Kristinestad spur Redeve’s strong growth as a data centre developer and enabler.
– “We are a solid development partner for data centre operations that can both provide and develop areas appropriate for operators. We already have similar activities and development in Kajaani, Myllykoski and Voikkaa. Fingrid’s extensive main grid in Western Finland creates new opportunities for the development of operations. This development project is excellent news not only to Kristinestad but to all of Finland,” Heiskanen highlights.
